This 2011-2012 season, at Edukick Madrid, we have a 23 of the luckiest football players in the world. Mr. Aragones, Edukick Madrid General Coordinator and former mental coach of Spanish National Football team visited the team training grounds and residence at Universidad Autonoma.

For Mr. Aragones it was impressive to see so much young talent and enthusiasm reunited in a close group of international players representing more than twenty different nations and cultures of the world in just one single team: THE EDUKICK MADRID TEAM.

Last week, minutes before one of their daily practices at Colmenar Stadium, Mr Aragones addressed the Edukick Madrid team.

Here are some excerpts of his speech:
“I am here today to welcome all of you to Edukick Madrid. We are very happy that you have chosen to be here this season. For us you are the luckiest youngsters in the world. You are doing what you love the most, playing futbol and playing it here in Spain at the highest level.

You have to thank your parents for giving this great opportunity to become your best as footballer, as student and above all as a person. We will feel rewarded as educators and coaches if, at the end of this 2011/12 journey, you are better player, learner and individual.

We are here to grant you our best expertise and knowledge for you to grow up, on and off the field. The game is on, and you are the main actor. It is up to you to excel with each practice, with each game, with each class and with each one of the learning experiences that will be opening for you while in Spain.

Use them to your advantage, because when you train, you always train for you, not for your coach. When you study and learn you study for you, not for your teacher, and when you grow up in character it stays with you forever, not in anybody else.

So accept the challenge, we wish you all the best for this new 2011/12 season at Edukick Madrid.”

Experience the international football experience of a lifetime!

Throughout the weeks you have seen the photos and blog updates on the program. It has been commented many times that we have a great team of students here in Bolton this year, well one month in and that is still the case. Off the pitch the boys have bonded well both in class and socially, which makes all the difference on a long stay like this program.

It’s been a hard test for some, the fitness and physical ability needed to train here under the guidance of Bolton Wanderers FC, has come as a shock to many. However now they are getting into the routine and seeing what is needed and we are seeing great development and progress already.

We woke up early to arrive at the Sacramento International Airport around 6:30AM to check in with the airline and document our baggage. Roberto Plasencia and Jorge Valdez, both with Sports Camp Foundation, met with us there to ensure everything was in order. Our trip began with a flight from Sacramento to Philadelphia and from Philadelphia to Madrid, Spain. We left Philadelphia in the evening and were scheduled to arrive in Madrid the next day in the morning.

The plane ride was 15 hours! But as soon as we got there we were greeted with smiling faces. Welcome to Spain!

Friday, July 1, 2011
We were greeted at the airport by Edukick staff that transported us to the residence halls of the university. We got our rooms and attended the orientation. The orientation explained everything we needed to know. Later that afternoon we had our first soccer training covering some touches on the ball. We were tired from the long plane ride and little sleep.

Saturday, July 2, 2011
Our wake up call was at 8:15 Saturday. Our day started bright and early with a healthy breakfast of cereal and milk. We had our second training. We practiced tactical skills and played small matches. The coach is really nice and you can tell that he cares. The camp counselors are truly helpful. Even if they can barely understand you, they try to help you all they can. Today we visited El Monasterio de San Lorenzo (a monastery) where mass is held and there are many historical art pictures. Also every person who is considered royalty is buried there. After that we went back to our residency and we all played a friendly game of soccer. There are so many amazing people here from France, Romania, New York, Ohio, Italy, and Pennsylvania. We are all having a really fun time and Megan and I so grateful to be here.

Sunday, July 3, 2011
Today we did not have any training, which meant it was a day for an excursion. Our first stop was to Segovia and we walked around the beautiful city. We visited a very old castle and walked 150 steps to get to the top. Afterwards, we headed to a cathedral that contained many old artifacts. We also went shopping then headed to the summer residency for royalty. It was beautiful and contained a maze, waterfalls, flowers, and fountains. Then we headed home, talked with other campers and ended a very relaxing day.

Monday, July 4, 2011
Today bright and early we had soccer training which we focused on our vision and the fundamentals of soccer. Afterwards, it was our first Spanish class. Megan and I were placed in the advanced class. Then we had our siesta time, relaxed and got ready for evening training. To end the day, we had dinner and then the campers (us) through a small party, since it was 4th of July back home. Happy 4th of July everyone!!! GO FC ELK GROVE!!!

Tuesday, July 5, 2011
Today we had our regular training in the morning and we had our Spanish class in the afternoon. Also, we went swimming in the local pool and got a little sunburn, it is hot over here!!!. After was a regular evening training (scrimmage game, we played the Juventud Sanse U-15 team we won 3-0), dinner, and off to bed.

Wednesday, July 6, 2011
Our day was a normal day and we also went to the pool. All of the instructors here are very polite and nice. Spanish class is really fun because both Megan and I are in the advanced class with 7 other people. We were asked to give a presentation during class. The presentation from each student was recorded and uploaded to YouTube… Here is the link for my presentation as well as Megan’s presentation…

Armandinho has spent the majority of his time since retirement as a player coaching or scouting for a number of Brazilian professional teams including EduKick Brazil affiliate club Fluminense FC.

Armandinho oversees every aspect of the training and ensures that all EduKick Brazil players are receiving the required level of training from the Fluminense FC Academy staff as well as conducting training sessions himself.

EduKick Brazil Students Training in the Afternoon

Each week, students receive two coaching sessions per day. This constant training helps them to build strength, speed, endurance and agility. EduKick participants train alongside the young aspiring local Brazilian players 4 – 5 hours per day 5 days per week following the training plan and methods of the Fluminense FC Youth Academy.

The double sessions provide the EduKick participants with increased technical ability and tactical awareness as well as the strength, endurance, speed and agility that is required for the modern game.

Training and studying in a foreign country allows students to learn new tactics and skills that will help them as they progress in their football career.

EduKick Brazil Students Play Competitively
Each weekend the participating students will be placed with one of the Fluminense FC Academy youth teams to play competitive matches.

The Fluminense Youth Academy has two or three different teams within each age group (U12, 14, 16, 18) that play at different levels of competition both nationally and regional so EduKick Brazil participants will win a place on one of the teams based upon their performance and development during the previous weeks training.
