EduKick interviews Miguel Hamutenya on his time with EduKick, his soccer success and his move to the Glasgow Rangers.

How did your training with EduKick England prepare you for your pro career?

“Training with Edukick England guided and helped me in many ways to make it as a professional, not only physically, but taught me the things behind the scenes in making it as a professional. Something I learned was that small things make a difference. Being set up with a premier league football team like Bolton Wanderers shows you what is needed to be done. Having Top Coaches with top facilities plays a huge part. It makes you hungry to succeed. Being in a program like EduKick makes you see how much work you have to put in to succeed.”

Do you have any good memories you can share from your time in England?

“Just improving day by day as a player is my greatest memory. As months past, I felt like a better player. My development is my greatest memory.”

How has your time in Israel made you a stronger player?

“Israel is a completely different style of football. I was with the first team, the guys were very strong and at a very good standard. Playing with players with so much experience benefited me as the youngest player on the team.”

What are you looking forward to with the move to the Glasgow Rangers?

“I’m looking forward to progressing even more and fighting for a place in the first team. It is an absolute honor to be playing in such a prestigious football club with such history. In my eyes, it is one of the best teams out there competing with the biggest clubs.”

Do you have any advice for younger players trying to go pro?

“Work hard! Believe in yourself and never give up. If you want it that bad you will get there regardless. Listening to your coaches is vital, listen to every word. Make sure you focus and give it your all, always. If you fail, stay positive and keep going.”

Would you recommend EduKick International football Academies to other aspiring players?

“Yes! I certainly would. It’s taken me to where I am today and made me the player I am. I would recommend it to any player out there who knows they have the potential of making it as a footballer.”

Last quote before we go?

“I hate losing more then I like to win.”

EduKick England alumni Miguel Hamutenya, a 19-year-old from Namibia, has just signed a professional contract with Israel Premier League club Bnei Sakhnin! This famous team is made up of Jews and Arabs, playing together on the same side.

Miguel was with EduKick England from September 2009 until March 2011. During that time, Miguel had the opportunity to represent Namibia in International competition at U18 level. He also trained and trialed with several English professional and semi-professional teams.

MLS team New York Red Bulls offered Miguel a contract after his trial, but he decided to try his luck in Israel –and landed his first professional contract!

“Training is really really intense, we work very very hard. Every single day you can see that stadium, you can see where you want to be.

“I definitely recommend the course. Before coming, really start working hard. You can’t come here out of shape. And once you come here, know that you’re up for a big challenge.”

EduKick England course leader and Bolton Wanderers FC ISS Coach James Ward commented:
“During the 18 months he was with us Miguel became an integral part of the squad. He is strong, athletic and blessed with pace and worked hard with the BWFC ISS coaches during the course to develop his technical ability.

“Miguel put in some outstanding performances during matches and became a real leader of the team. We are so happy all the hard work he put in has reaped its reward.”

EduKick England Director Mick Brennan had this to say:
“Miguel showed a great desire to succeed from the moment he joined us back in September 2009. But perhaps his greatest asset was his patience in trying to forge a career in professional football which we know can be a frustrating. It was a great achievement for Miguel to be requested to train and ultimately represent English Professional Club Preston North End youth team in a competitive trial game.

“Miguel told me this opportunity gave him an insight into just what it would take. From that moment we could see how focused Miguel became and we were convinced he would reach his goal of becoming a professional. I can say that all the staff of EduKick England are delighted he has signed his first professional contract and will follow his career closely.

“Well done Miguel!”

We woke up early to arrive at the Sacramento International Airport around 6:30AM to check in with the airline and document our baggage. Roberto Plasencia and Jorge Valdez, both with Sports Camp Foundation, met with us there to ensure everything was in order. Our trip began with a flight from Sacramento to Philadelphia and from Philadelphia to Madrid, Spain. We left Philadelphia in the evening and were scheduled to arrive in Madrid the next day in the morning.

The plane ride was 15 hours! But as soon as we got there we were greeted with smiling faces. Welcome to Spain!

Friday, July 1, 2011
We were greeted at the airport by Edukick staff that transported us to the residence halls of the university. We got our rooms and attended the orientation. The orientation explained everything we needed to know. Later that afternoon we had our first soccer training covering some touches on the ball. We were tired from the long plane ride and little sleep.

Saturday, July 2, 2011
Our wake up call was at 8:15 Saturday. Our day started bright and early with a healthy breakfast of cereal and milk. We had our second training. We practiced tactical skills and played small matches. The coach is really nice and you can tell that he cares. The camp counselors are truly helpful. Even if they can barely understand you, they try to help you all they can. Today we visited El Monasterio de San Lorenzo (a monastery) where mass is held and there are many historical art pictures. Also every person who is considered royalty is buried there. After that we went back to our residency and we all played a friendly game of soccer. There are so many amazing people here from France, Romania, New York, Ohio, Italy, and Pennsylvania. We are all having a really fun time and Megan and I so grateful to be here.

Sunday, July 3, 2011
Today we did not have any training, which meant it was a day for an excursion. Our first stop was to Segovia and we walked around the beautiful city. We visited a very old castle and walked 150 steps to get to the top. Afterwards, we headed to a cathedral that contained many old artifacts. We also went shopping then headed to the summer residency for royalty. It was beautiful and contained a maze, waterfalls, flowers, and fountains. Then we headed home, talked with other campers and ended a very relaxing day.

Monday, July 4, 2011
Today bright and early we had soccer training which we focused on our vision and the fundamentals of soccer. Afterwards, it was our first Spanish class. Megan and I were placed in the advanced class. Then we had our siesta time, relaxed and got ready for evening training. To end the day, we had dinner and then the campers (us) through a small party, since it was 4th of July back home. Happy 4th of July everyone!!! GO FC ELK GROVE!!!

Tuesday, July 5, 2011
Today we had our regular training in the morning and we had our Spanish class in the afternoon. Also, we went swimming in the local pool and got a little sunburn, it is hot over here!!!. After was a regular evening training (scrimmage game, we played the Juventud Sanse U-15 team we won 3-0), dinner, and off to bed.

Wednesday, July 6, 2011
Our day was a normal day and we also went to the pool. All of the instructors here are very polite and nice. Spanish class is really fun because both Megan and I are in the advanced class with 7 other people. We were asked to give a presentation during class. The presentation from each student was recorded and uploaded to YouTube… Here is the link for my presentation as well as Megan’s presentation…

At the end of his EduKick England Year Long program Sam attended trials with English Championship professional team Peterborough FC arranged for him by EduKick. The trial was a success and Sam was invited back to Peterborough to attend pre- season with them but while back home in Switzerland Sam attended more trials with professional teams in the Lucerne area. The trials were again successful and after some serious thought Sam decided to sign his first contract with FC Emmenbrücke who are currently playing in Liga 2 in the Swiss football pyramid. Signing the contract with FC Emmenbrücke will also allow Sam to continue and complete his college studies which was important to Sam and his family when taking this important decision.

More good news for Sam is that he has been invited to participate in training sessions with theLichtenstein national U21 team during October.

When asked about his time with EduKick, Sam said, “Football wise I got much stronger and developed my fitness. My game understanding is ten times better than before. Living for a whole year in England with a host family, developed my character and I enjoyed to play with all the different people from other cultures.”

EduKick England Director Mick Brennan had this to say “When Sam joined our Year Long Academy program it was clear that he had raw ability, a great attitude and was very humble which are key ingredients required to succeed on the pitch and in life. We are delighted that we have been able to play a part in Sam taking his first step into professional football.”

The Elite 2011 program is going extremely well with all players getting sharper with each training session. The beauty of our program is the team spirit!!!

When you live together, train together, eat together and play together, a great sense of community builds up. Participants understand each other much better and this brings them closer together!!!!

We do not envy Real Madrid, Barcelona or any top first division team because we are doing exactly the same as they are: train hard and play our best to become more competitive with each game!!!!

We live together and play friendly together to become stronger team. So far we have played a few games, and with each one we feel stronger. Well done boys you deserve it!!!!!

EduKick Madrid Alumni Nicolo Muniz takes one step closer to top Spanish football!
Colmenar, a top third division team in Spanish liga, has invited Nico for trial with them for the next 3 weeks of their pre-season.

Nico is a gifted 18-year-old player from New Mexico in the States. He came to Edukick Madrid in September 2009, training abroad with us until June 2010. During this time he developed his superb technique playing in A.D Alcobendas. By the end of the season Nico had 44 goals in total, and countless assists.

Nico’s technical ability, effective decision making under pressure, and his natural ability to think & execute quickly ahead of his opponents have earned a lot of attention. MLS team Real Salt Lake in the States, as well as several Spanish La Liga First Division teams are closely following Nico’s finesse and natural instinct in front of goal.

Spain’s world-cup-winner style suited Nico’s game perfectly.
He decided to sign up with Edukick Madrid Football Academy, where training focuses on how to get the ball on the ground, playing it fast and accurately. This unique Spanish style of play honed Nico’s skills. Living and training daily in a professional football-oriented environment like Edukick Madrid kept him focused on top performance.

This training has prepared him for any football challenge.
This opportunity with Colmenar, a top third division team in Spanish liga, is a great chance for Nico to prove his great potential as a top class footballer! At Edukick Madrid, we know Nico has what it takes to make it.

We wish Nico all the best from everyone at Edukick international family,

- Anselmo Vicioso-Aragones

The national team coach was talking with Mohamed on TV recently. They were very pleased that Mohamed is young, but still able to play and live in England alone. They also praise the efforts of the EduKick academy coaches.

This article from Egyptian Professional Arena announces Mohamed, the player of EduKick England, has joined the Egyptian national team.

Haedan Turner, one of our students who has been here for the past two years, also one of our most improved players over the time, has just signed a one year contract with Real Salt Lake.

Samuel Zimmermann has been on trial with Peterborough and as far as we are aware will be invited back in a week or so for pre-season training.

Thomas Schipano has been on trial with Luton, and is now on trial with Charlton, but with a view of to returning to us in September if nothing comes of this.

After the end of our EduKick England soccer camp, we asked our boys for feedback. Here’s what they had to say:

“My time on the course here at Bolton has made me learn a lot about myself and has provided me with many experiences, there have been highs and lows and I have learnt to cherish both. I have grown a great deal, not only in football but also as a person. The highlights for me were the first term, it was tough but how we bonded together as a team was great. Off the pitch it’s definitely a great experience and has allowed me to mature.”
Steven Fong

“The course was great. I have learnt how to live on my own, teamwork, money management, to travel independently and matured. I have made a lot of new friends from around the world. My values regarding respect, perseverance and tolerance have increased 100%. My highlight was playing on the Reebok, fantastic – and I got to see the royal wedding!”
Jesus Flores

“Being part of this programme I feel has helped me in many ways, first as a person, then as a player. Developing around a different environment and having to adapt to many different things is what has made this so unique. It has prepared me for life and it has been a great step, probably one of the biggest I have taken. It has also prepared me technically, with fitness, strength, mentally and physically. I have gained a lot of confidence.”
Hiram Torres Ramos

“My time here was good. I had some ups and downs, however think I had a pretty good and consistent year in football. I have got to the top of my fitness and learnt some new things. I had some fun times and made some great friends. I will never forget this.”
Joao Pereira

“It has been a massive learning curve. I have learnt many valuable lessons, how to eat well, train well and live away from home. I came here a small fish in a big pond and have grown. My optimum level has developed and i feel my game has improved, I’m more confident, consistent and can play at a higher level because of my learning curve.”
Haedan Turner

“I have had a great year here. I have learnt how to be independent and so much about football, playing in all positions and what every role if for. I’ve gained a lot of experience and gained my coaching badge.”
Yash Pawar

“My time on the programme was great. I have learnt a lot of football and have developed personally. I have found new friends and become a better player.”

“I believe my time here has been very fun and has helped me develop as a player. The coaches and facilities are great and the team are so close.”

“My time here has been enjoyable, but has gone very fast. I will cherish the friends I have made from around the world. I have learnt a lot on and off the pitch and hope to put this to good use in the future.”

“The programme is good; I am improving a lot in football and fitness and have had many experiences that have changed me personally. I have learnt how I can get to my dream and improve. Personally I have changed, I am not afraid of anything now and I can do things for myself.”

“This year I have learnt a lot of things. In football I have improved my fitness, physically and game understanding. The programme gives a lot of opportunities. Actually the programme is fantastic. It helps you become a more professional footballer.”
